Should You Book A Stay At W Sydney: The Newest Hotel In Darling Harbour
W for the W. So Yes. You should book a stay at the newest hotel in Darling Harbour. You will quickly realise that this 588-key property is definitely in the contest for the best place to stay in Darling Harbour. It offers a feeling that is distinctly and uniquely W. It pushes design beyond the conventional, with an edge of larrikin - whilst maintaining top-level luxury.
‘Not many places can pull this off and have it feel fun and not gimmicky. They got it right’.
I visited W Sydney when it first opened towards the end of October 2023. Shortly after famous first guests Buddy and Jesinta Franklin.
I was excited to check it out.
Then as I walked in I was faced with the choice I was not expecting.
Blue-lit stairs, a copper honeycomb escalator or a lift to get up to reception.
The lift stood no chance, but the allure of the blue lights only narrowly lost to my intrigue of the copper structure that lined the walls. I then surrendered to the escalators, travelling up to reception then up again on the next set, and.
I returned a few days ago and took the lift up. As the doors open and you see more of the interesting design of the lobby, it was also a good way up.
If you stay at W Sydney I’m sure you will go on your own journey, whilst experiencing a luxury hotel stay in Darling Harbour.
The impressive hotel building is already a Darling Harbour icon in my eyes and am sure in the eyes of many others. You can’t miss it, then you can’t stop looking at it! You should know that the hotel is within the building known as The Ribbon.
‘I’m sure this name has stuck for some, but I can’t un-see the branded W. To me, it is the W building’.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO THE STAY AT W SYDNEY?
After looking at all 2024 availability I have seen a price range of the best rates of $429 in March, with similar prices available on some days up to October.
The most expensive nights are $700 to $1000 in December.
The W Sydney is an incredible option for New Year’s Eve with front-row views of the fireworks in Darling Harbour, hence the $1000 per night starting price tag.
WHERE IS W SYDNEY?
‘This hotel is so good at telling you I am here, that you could simply be anywhere in Darling Harbour and know exactly where the W hotel is. It is an iconic and unmissable building’.
It’s always a nice feeling to be on a trip to a new city and feel confident that you could ask anyone where is my hotel, and they know where you are talking about.
On the off chance they don’t, they may know where the IMAX is. That’s where it is. Both part of The Ribbon property. Take a look at the map below to see where W Sydney and Darling Harbour is to the rest of the city.

What Are The Best Room Types At W Sydney?
There is something for everyone.
Rooms that stood out to me were any of the studios or suites that have full kitchens. Even if you don’t use it, its good to have. Having a toddler, combined with years of travelling full time has me always loving the option of a kitchen.
There are some unique features of many of the room types so see what grabs you.
It may only be a one-bedroom suite but the Extreme Wow Suite is kitted out with a mega orange couch and an 8-seater wine bar set-up that caught my attention.
W SYDNEY REVIEWS AND WHAT ARE GUESTS SAYING ABOUT THEIR STAYS?
To help you decide if the W Hotel in Sydney is the best place for you to book a stay in Darling Harbour, I have researched all the latest real guest reviews. This is what I discovered.
People love the open-air rooftop pool, incredible views over Darling Harbour, great location, new and modern room design.
Also, many guests praised the friendliness, helpfulness, and attention to detail of the staff and their service.
When I worked in hotels I have personally worked with a couple of people who currently work at W Sydney. They are amazing people who I am sure will make your stay a memorable one.
Currently 8.3 on Booking.com. I feel the reviews of W Sydney will only get better.
Being a new hotel will naturally bring up new challenges for a while. I believe any smaller complaints will be resolved. More guest reviews are praising the same things people are not entirely happy with.
Some people mentioned noise, both from nightclubs and from passing traffic. It does seem from some angles to rise up from the busy Western Distributor. These would also be considerations for surrounding Darling Harbour hotels and would have been in the mind of the architect and developer when W Sydney came to life.
Only being open to guests for a handful of months, I will keep an eye on current reviews and update this article with any key points.
IF ONLY…
If only W Sydney had rooms with balconies or terraces.
There are some great options nearby with terraces or at least a balcony in the higher room types and top suites.
