Where To Stay In Sydney For NEW YEARS EVE 2024: Not Many Rooms Left With Views Of The Fireworks

After working in luxury hotels in Sydney on New Year’s Eve I have some tips you should consider, and know some incredible places to stay. There are some things to keep in mind when booking, but first I will share some 5-star hotels with incredible views of the New Year’s Eve Fireworks in Sydney.

A valid question floating around in your mind may be; is new year’s eve in sydney even worth it?

Yes.

It won't take long to experience why so many people travel to find the best vantage spots or book the best hotel room views over Sydney Harbour for this celebration. Let's get into it.

Where To Stay In Sydney For New Years Eve Fireworks

Are you thinking about ‘how can I watch Sydney fireworks on New Year's Eve?’. If you are then I would jump in and say to book a room with a view of the fireworks.

In my hotel recommendations below I will list the most expensive and premium room that is available to book and has a view of the Fireworks. These hotels have many incredible room types that can be what you are looking for. Some with views, some without. Ranging from the largest suites in Sydney to cute studio rooms.

If they have made it into this article they are all incredible places to stay in Sydney for New Year’s Eve and in the best locations to watch the fireworks and ring in 2024. Look at my recommendations and take your pick ;)

“If I had to pick the best place to stay for NYE with views of Sydney Harbour it would be a suite at Park Hyatt Sydney. As of June 2024 most hotels with views are fully booked, so my pick that is still available to book for this year would be an Executive Sydney Harbour Suite with Club Lounge Access at Shangri-La.

This article was last updated on the 17th June 2024. Room availability listed was accurate at time of publishing.

Sydney Hotels With Views of the Fireworks

Sydney Harbour Views

Park Hyatt Sydney is in the perfect location as close to the fireworks action as you can get!

I can break it down further into two categories.

The first is low-level and close-up views of the Harbour Bridge and Opera house House. These are my picks for the closest you can get to staying in the Opera House or on the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Park Hyatt Sydney (9.1 Booking.com Review Score)

If you are after the best hotel in Sydney for New Year’s Eve to watch the fireworks, Park Hyatt is the hotel to beat. Just walking into one of the lavish suites with unmatched views of the Opera house and Harbour Bridge up close will be a moment you will remember.

All the rooms at this property are incredible, but the Rooftop Suite, Harbour Suite, Opera Suite and Sydney Suite will leave you in awe.

Due to understandable demand, rooms and suites for this year are now unavailable. Being only March, this may change so I will keep checking and keep this article updated.

Take a look at this amazing hotel anyway :) You never know, there could be some availability…

Pier One Sydney Harbour (8.6 Booking.com Review Score)

The Harbour Bridge Views that Pier One offers are insane! Get up close and personal. This is the closest hotel to the Harbour Bridge Fireworks display. If you can book one of the top Suites here, like the Admiral Suite, Vice Admiral or an Opera Bridge Balcony Suite, wow. That's all I would have to say. They have reasonable guest limits too for the suites, so you can bring in the new year with your favourite people in one of the best locations in Sydney for the fireworks.

All the suites and rooms with bridge views are currently booked out but you can still book rooms and suites with fireworks views for a two-night NYE stay.

This is still an enticing option given the location and the fact that the hotel has a fireworks viewing area for hotel guests, as well as special rates for NYE Events and food and beverage packages.

The Second is high and expansive views of Sydney Harbour. Some hotels have the height and vantage that the views are so wide you lose track of how far you can see. You may be able to see the fireworks across the whole harbour. Breathtaking.

InterContinental Sydney (8.4 Booking.com Review Score)

Having worked at this hotel on more than a few New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Days, I can say from speaking directly with guests, you will be blown away with the views of the fireworks.

Recently refurbished and ready to entrance guests with arguably the best complete fireworks views out over Sydney Harbour.

Surprisingly there was no availability on my last check. Being only March I was surprised you could not even book a room without a view. Turns out my suspicions were true. On this June update, I have come across many options, including room types with views of the fireworks, overlooking Sydney Harbour. Intercontinental Sydney Hotel has historically had a 3-night minimum stay for NYE reservations and this is the case again.

If you have the option to watch the fireworks from the rooftop bar at Intercontinental, Aster, the views will guarantee you are in for a memorable night!

Four Seasons Sydney (9.1 Booking.com Review Score)

Another hotel with incredible views out over Circular Quay, with the Bridge and Opera House in full glory. Some great room and suite options.

You can not currently book a room for 2024 NYE but have in previous years had a minimum 3-night stay.

Shangri-La Sydney (8.2 Booking.com Review Score)

With a similar location and vantage to Four Seasons, the Shangri-La also has superb bird-eye views out over much of Sydney Harbour. I recently stayed at Shangri-La Sydney and loved my view. The fireworks would be on show, that's for sure!  Packages with Club Lounge access sound enticing to me.

There are currently still rooms with harbour and fireworks views available to book. The top room you can still book is a Horizon Opera House City King with Club Lounge Access. It will cost $5,566 for a 2-night minimum stay over NYE.

“I would say this option with Opera House View and Club Access is my current favourite place to book for NYE 2024 which is still available as of June 2024.”

For next year you can think of booking a suite with a bath to indulge in a bathtub with views of the fireworks.

Crown Towers (8.8 Booking.com Review Score)

Over in Barangaroo sits another great place to spend New Year’s Eve in Sydney. Rooms and majestic suites with fireworks views to match.

New Year’s Eve dates are currently booked out. Take a look and see if a room has become available.

Arguably one of Sydney’s most luxurious suites is here at Crown Towers Sydney and was reportedly where Taylor Swift stayed in Sydney.

The Sebel Quay West Suites (8.7 Booking.com Review Score)

Great for one and two-bedroom apartments with kitchens. Close to the action.

They currently do not have New Year’s Eve availability. Usually a great choice for apartments with kitchens for NYE and is worth a look perhaps for next year when they release rooms.

UPDATE JUNE 2024: They do have some availablity, and even some Deluxe Two-Bedroom Apartments with Harbour Views. I was taken aback a little I must admit when I discovered they have a 5-night minimum stay on NYE bookings at this moment. That seems a bit extreme in my book. Maybe you are planning to stay 5 nights in Sydney anyway. I am always an advocate for longer stays anywhere so I am all for spending 5 nights here, but to be a requirement seems a big ask.

I will be interested to watch this space and see if they end up fully booked, change the minimum stay reservation strategy or end up with a couple of spare rooms on NYE.

Pullman Quay Grand Sydney Harbour (8.6 Booking.com Review Score)

Be in your apartment, in the kitchen or living area looking at the fireworks. The harbour and Opera House are at your doorstep. Check availability here.

No Harbour View and Circular Quay View Rooms are currently available but location-wise, you will certainly be in the middle of the New Year’s Eve celebrations and festivities.

Sir Stamford at Circular Quay (8.3 Booking.com Review Score)

Some charming rooms and have NYE events too. Great location in Circular Quay, just up the road from the Opera House. Last year you could still stay in the Presidential Suite pretty last minute ;).

Hotels with views of the New years eve Darling Harbour fireworks

I have noticed that many top luxury hotels in Darling Harbour do not share an important characteristic with their Harbour Bridge view counterparts. They don't have minimum night stays. Meaning you can book a one-night stay on New Year’s Eve. Huge plus. That said, I do think staying at least two or three nights would be better.

Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour (8.5 Booking.com Review Score)

My favourite hotel I have stayed at in Darling Harbour. Right in the middle of the fireworks action. Stunning rooms and stunning views of not only Darling Harbour but the Sydney CBD Skyline.

A Luxury Corner Room with One King Bed and Club Millesime Access is still available at Sofitel Darling Harbour for $2,014 for a one night stay. For no minimum night stay for New Year’s Eve at the moment, this could be a great deal if you only planned on staying the night of the main event.

Unbelievably as of June 17th 2024, there are currently still 3 luxury suite categories available to book for NYE.

There is availability in multiple Junior Suites and Prestige Suites as well as the Bellerive Private Luxury Suite.

W Sydney (New Hotel)

This brand new hotel has been an incredible addition to the offerings of luxury hotels in Darling Harbour with views of the fireworks. They have a Special Event 2 night minimum stay for NYE. Whilst loved by many last year, you can still be amongst the first people to to celebrate the new year from W Sydney!

My initial search showed no availability for NYE 2024.

There are rooms available but are a minimum 3-night stay for New Years Eve.

There is a large range of room types, suites and apartments currently available.

$3,747 total price for a three-night stay is the best priced option with harbour and fireworks views at W Sydney.

The most expensive Luxury Suite In Darling Harbour still available now is the WOW One-Bedroom King Suite with Harbour View for a three-night cost of a whopping $17,929.
Hyatt Regency (8.2 Booking.com Review Score)

Take a look at this hotel if you are looking for a Darling Harbour view and when available, a suite with a terrace to take in the fireworks.

Top rooms with Darling Harbour views still available for 2024: King Room with Balcony and Harbour View for $1,699.

Surprisingly, since this article’s last update, there are more rooms with Darling Harbour views available and are also cheaper.

There are also opens without a balcony, but do have Club Access (I would most likely opt for a Club room, which adds some atmosphere to ring in 2025), or rooms on High Floors.

‘This is my pick for the best hotel with views of Darling Harbour NYE Fireworks that is still available to book now. Between views from your room and the atmosphere in Club Lounge, you will have a decision to make.’

Meriton Suites Sussex Street, Sydney (8.5 Booking.com Review Score)

Even the studio rooms you can book still have kitchens, so if you want to self-cater for NYE then take a look at the Studio, One, Two and three-bedroom suites and apartments. The top suite and Penthouse has a big balcony with bigger views.

Suites here have had a 2 or 3-night minimum stay for NYE 2024.

Fully booked for 2024. Still looking to book last minute for this New Year’s Eve, with views of Darling Harbour see if there is any availability at Meriton Suites.

The Darling at The Star (9.2 Booking.com Review Score)

Some great suite options for New Year’s Eve, and a fantastic choice if you have an NYE event at The Star, or spending time at the Casino.

If you have your heart set on staying at The Darling, check out the current availability

Novotel Sydney Darling Harbour (8.0 Booking.com Review Score)

Another great hotel in Darling Harbour with views of the fireworks.

Currently still rooms available for New Year’s Eve 2024 with fireworks views. I would say based on how quickly rooms with views of fireworks and harbours have booked up this year I would consider this a great option.

If you feel staying at the Novotel in Darling Harbour is the perfect fit for you, check current availability and prices here

As of June 2024, there are still some great options including Executive Suites with Darling Harbour views.

PARKROYAL Darling Harbour, Sydney (8.3 Booking.com Review Score)

A great choice in Darling Harbour for the fireworks display. If you can book a room with Club Access on New Year’s Eve, you will have some great views of the fireworks. The W Hotel is one of the buildings in front of the PARKROYAL so the view is not uninterrupted. Watching the fireworks here will still make for a memorable New Year’s Eve in Sydney.

Are there any rooms available on NYE with Darling Harbour views? I did not find any at the time of writing this article, but when I re-checked today there are options with Darling Harbour and city skyline views. I would be trying to book a room with a view or with Club Lounge Access. Check availability

Stay Somewhere you Might not have considered:

You don't have to be staying in Sydney City, Circular Quay, The Rocks or Darling Harbour to get incredible Fireworks views over Sydney Harbour.

Growing up living in Sydney I have experienced New Year’s Eve Fireworks in many forms. I have ventured to many vantage points and celebrated from apartments with beautiful views of the fireworks. There are other alternative areas to stay in Sydney with spectacular views of the fireworks.

There are a couple of great hotel options in North Sydney. I have stayed at View Sydney before and it does have some nice views. Another option in this area is Meriton Suites North Sydney has two-bedroom suite with a balcony, that looks over the whole harbour!

The Kirribilli is a great four-bedroom house I found on Booking.com in Kirribilli.

For a unique New Year’s Eve experience Roar and Snore and Wildlife Retreat at Taronga are something special to consider.

Milson Serviced Apartments has apartments with great views out over Luna Park, looking towards the Harbour Bridge.

Some Tips For Your Stay

I have worked in the Reservations Department of a top Sydney hotel, and have experience dealing with New Year’s Eve Bookings. These are a couple of things I would keep in mind.

  1. Book in advance. Even though you may find last-minute NYE Hotel deals with views of the Fireworks, this was not generally the experience of the hotel I worked for. Especially for Penthouse Suites or other Presidential or Signature suites. These suites, unlike most room types, can be booked years in advance at some hotels. Crazy to think that someone is planning for NYE years in advance! But I have seen it!

‘It has been crazy how quickly all the best hotels in Sydney have been fully booked for 2024. It is currently only March and finding a room, apartment or top suite with views of the New Year’s Eve Fireworks will be a challenge to put it lightly. I will keep this article regularly updated when I see rooms or suites become available at the hotels I recommend.’

  2. Before booking, call or email the hotel if you have any unanswered questions. Reviews and websites can’t always help you over events like New Year’s Eve. Access to areas might be different than during the rest of the year. If you are unsure, or the wording is unclear, call the hotel.

  3. The majority have minimum stays during this period, at New Year’s Eve prices. For example, many have 3-night minimum stays when the 31st of December is one of those nights. That could mean what you like. You could arrive on NYE and stay for 3 nights. You could stay the two nights leading up to New Year’s Eve, as well as NYE and check out New Year’s Day. Or stay the night before and after to make up your minimum nights.

  4. Check that the view from the room is what you think it is. If you are trying to book a room with Harbour Bridge Firework views, make sure that's what you are booking. Beware of ‘partial Harbour View’ wordings. Seek more information if needed to avoid disappointment.

  5. Know your room's visitor limits and guest capacity. Example of how this may play out. You are travelling with a group of friends or family and have booked 3 rooms with 2 people staying in each room. Only one room booked has a view of the fireworks and you planned to all go to that room for the fireworks. The guest capacity may be 2 and you may be allowed one or two guests. You even might not be allowed guests at all on NYE. This is a recipe for disappointment. This is something hotels monitor and enforce.

  6. Hotels will call and email you to confirm your reservation. This serves many purposes. It helps pick up booking errors with enough time to fix them. If you have any special requirements you can share them. If by chance you booked by mistake, the hotel will have an opportunity to sell the room on one of the most profitable and important nights of the year. Meaning, the possibility of getting a free cancellation and avoiding paying high prices for being a no-show. Be mindful of missed calls and emails from the hotel in the lead-up to your stay, maybe your credit card has expired without you knowing. You don't want to lose your reservation due to the wrong digit on a credit card. As reference see this on a hotel's terms and conditions for New Year’s Eve bookings: “If a credit card is declined and we cannot contact you, the booking will be cancelled”.

  7. Many Sydney hotels will require non-refundable prepayment and have a New year’s Eve no cancellation policy. Take note of the date this will get taken out. It may be at the time of booking, or it may be a couple of days before your check-in date.

  8. Be careful what credit card you have attached to the booking. As mentioned, many reservations will be prepaid and charged before you stay. As this will likely be for a lot of money, make sure it's being charged to the right card. I have experienced guests being impacted by providing a card they thought was only holding the booking.

  9. Book your dinners. This definitely applies to NYE restaurant reservations. Anything that you want to see, do and eat really should be booked in advance over the New Years period. Your hotel restaurant may be fully booked, even to in-house guests on NYE and in the days around it. It's a busy time indeed that is incredible, especially with a little thought and planning.

  10. Stay in the location you plan on being on the night. There will be road closures, blocked-off areas, and crowds of people heading to find their spot. Getting around can be challenging and at times impossible. This goes for public transport, taxis, uber, and your cousin dropping you off. All of it. Minimise your movement. If you are aiming for the 9 pm fireworks in Darling Harbour with kids, stay in Darling Harbour. If you want to be in the Botanical Gardens or get a spot near the bridge to watch the fireworks, stay close by. Stay walkable.

  11. Busy hotels also mean lots of guests. Lots of luggage. Lots of cars. Lots of room service. Lots of requests. Have your name on your luggage or something that can be used to identify what's yours. Also, expect that things may take longer than you think. Build extra wiggle room into your itinerary. This way at least you can be happily surprised if your luggage beats you to your room when you check in ;)

  12. If you are coming and going from the hotel, take your ID with you. This may sound obvious and is as easy as taking your wallet or purse. I say this as some busy hotels may require guests to verify themselves as they are entering the hotel or NYE ticketed areas and venues of the hotel.

  13. Road closures can make access to and from your hotel with a car difficult. I would suggest not arriving on the 31st of December. Get there at least a day before. That's my tip to avoid the stress of arriving at a hotel on NYE.

“You will have an absolutely incredible stay. One worth waiting for. One that you will remember.”
